Auston Matthews scored against his hometown team, much to his mom’s delight

Happy hockey parents are the best.

Auston Matthews will play his first professional hockey game in his home state of Arizona next week. It’s a pretty big deal, since Matthews represents the new wave of American-born hockey players in a state that’s only produced four total professional skaters.

We got our first taste of Matthews against the Coyotes when the Maple Leafs hosted Arizona in a Thursday evening tilt, and of course the No. 1 overall pick scored.

It’s a great goal, and Matthews’ 14th of the year! He’s on pace for a lot of goals, but probably the best part was the reaction from his mother, Ema.

Love happy hockey parents, or happy hockey mom in this case.
