Last week Casey Cizikas took an accidental skate blade to the wrist. Marc-Andre Fleury had a bit more of a scare after getting the skate blade of James van Riemsdyk to the throat.
Marc-Andre Fleury cut across the throat in scary skate incident
The Penguins’ netminder was mostly unharmed, thankfully!
There’s very little blood in these GIFs, so stop looking if you’re so inclined.
Fleury had to be taken out of the Penguins-Maple Leafs game just a few moments in after van Riemsdyk’s skate got between the mask and pads of Pittsburgh’s netminder.
Surprisingly, Fleury was mostly OK! The cut wasn’t a full slash, so Fleury calmly skated over to the bench to be tended by trainers. The reason he was pulled from the game was because the bleeding couldn’t be stopped, not because he was in immediate danger.
Fleury returned with about eight minutes to go in the first period. Thankfully the play wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
