Jaromir Jagr has done it again. For the second time this calendar year, Jagr has moved up on the NHL’s all-time points list. On Thursday, Jagr finally passed Mark Messier for sole possession of second place after tying his mark earlier this week.
Jaromir Jagr officially passes Mark Messier for No. 2 all-time in points
The Panthers forward got point No. 1,888 on an assist.

Jagr’s 1,888th point came against the Bruins in the third period. On a key play with the Panthers down 2-0, the puck bounced off of Jagr’s pants and onto the stick of Aleksander Barkov for the goal.
Much like when he made his tying point on Tuesday, Jagr was given a standing ovation from fans in Florida.
The game was halted for a moment as Jagr was presented with a golden stick and a moment to speak. Jagr, ever humble, said the puck “hit my ass,” unlike the “beautiful assist” he envisioned for himself.
Messier (and other NHL legends) even had a fun video message for Jagr:
Fewer than 1,000 points separate Jagr from Wayne Gretzky’s record of 2,857. The 44-year-old is unlikely to make that mark, but Jagr can put a serious dent in it if he continues to play.
