You could probably see this coming, since 14 trades were made over the weekend leading up to the deadline day on Monday. Just a handful of trades were completed, and most of them could be considered minor trades more than game-changing ones. The biggest deal involved Kris Russell, the Calgary defenseman sent to Dallas for a huge haul.
Some of the biggest potential trade names went off the board weeks before the deadline. Dustin Byfuglien and Steven Stamkos are staying with their respective teams, while Dion Phaneuf was traded in a monster deal from the Maple Leafs in early February. Jets captain Andrew Ladd returned to Chicago on Friday night in a big deal, and longtime Hurricanes captain Eric Staal joined his brother, Marc Staal, in New York, ready for a Cup opportunity with the Rangers.
