One of the most baffling things about hockey is how infrequently players seem to get cut or slashed by skate blades. Thank goodness they don’t, but you’d figure that injury would be common.
Senators defenseman somehow uninjured after taking a skate blade to the face
The perils of hockey.

Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Stone became the latest victim of that peril Saturday. Stone was grappling with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul late in the first period when Lupul lost his balance and fell to the ice.
His skates went flying up into the air, and one of them appeared to scrape Stone’s face for a good second.

Stone was somehow okay afterwards and finished out the game. Perhaps the blade plastic rubbed on him instead. Who knows. All we know is a horrific incident was narrowly (and thankfully) avoided.
