A scary scene in Philadelphia after an accidental injury.

Racing to a puck with Capitals defenseman John Carlson, Laughton lost an edge and was checked by Carlson while twisting, causing the forward to land into the boards awkwardly.
The play looked seemingly innocent, but the back boards had no give on Laughton’s fall as the forward visibly hit his head and back against them at full speed.

Laughton rolled over onto his front and moved his hands and feet, but afterward there were no signs of movement from the Flyers forward. Trainers came out right away to help and a stretcher was called out. Laughton was seen visibly talking to trainers but remained motionless while he was stretchered off with a neck brace.
The Flyers announced that Laughton was taken to Jefferson Hospital for precautionary reasons. Laughton tested negative at the hospital and was kept overnight.
