Flyers vs. Capitals 2016 results: Michal Neuvirth steals a Game 5 win for Philadelphia
Washington ran into a hot goaltender as the Capitals drop a 2-0 Game 5 at home.
The Flyers managed just 11 shots on goal as they now trail 3-2 in the series after stealing a win in Washington.
Ten seconds into the game, Brayden Schenn and T.J. Oshie dropped the mitts in a furious scrap to set the game's tone. Schenn answered the bell from the Capitals after laying down an uncalled cross-check to the back of Evgeny Kuznetsov's knees in Game 4.
The Capitals pressed all through periods one and two, with a distinct shot advantage of 30-8, but it was the Flyers that drew first blood. Seconds after a Flyers power play had ended, Ryan White's shot in front of the net banked off the skate of Capitals defenseman Taylor Chorney and in past Braden Holtby.
Washington was not at all aided in the first two period by their mistakes, as they had 17 penalty minutes and allowed five Flyers power plays through the first 40 minutes.
From then on out, it was the Neuvirth show. With 14 and 16 saves in the first two periods alone, Neuvirth capped off a spectacular game with 14 saves in the third. Philadelphia iced the game with an empty netter with 30 seconds left in the game.
Despite the Flyers spending most of the time in their own zone, Neuvirth was the difference by far as the series heads back to Philadelphia for at least one more game.
