The Pittsburgh Penguins lost one of their better defenders early in Game 2 after a high hit from Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik.
Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik injures Penguins player with high hit
Will Orpik hear from the NHL about this hit?
Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta was skating through the offensive zone when he saw Orpik approaching him. A split-second after he dished to a teammate, Orpik landed a high hit on him.
Orpik was immediately assessed a two-minute minor for interference. Maatta required help leaving the ice and looked somewhat dazed as he headed to the locker room. He did not immediately return in the first period.
Brooks Orpik has just one suspension in his NHL career. Whether the NHL decides to take a second look at his hit from Game 2 remains to be seen, and likely won’t be announced until Sunday morning at the earliest.
