Pittsburgh blew a lead by shooting the puck out of the rink 3 times

Three straight delay of game penalties is so rare.

For all intents and purposes, the Pittsburgh Penguins had a firm grip on Game 6 midway through the third period.

They led the Washington Capitals, 3-1, and had avoided penalty trouble all night. And then the dreaded delay of game penalty struck.

A primer: if you’re playing the puck in your own zone and shoot it out of the rink, you get to kill off a power play for the next two minutes. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it’s so frustrating for fans.

And it happened to the Penguins THREE STRAIGHT TIMES.
