Patrick Laine got an early welcome to the NHL and he hasn’t even been drafted yet.
Corey Perry injures top NHL prospect Patrik Laine with ‘garbage play’ at World Championships
He almost got away with it.

Laine, one of the top three players available in the 2016 NHL Draft, was skating with Finland against Canada in the IIHF World Championships on Tuesday when Anaheim Ducks and Canada forward Corey Perry caught him by surprise.
Whoops. That wasn’t intentional at all, no sir. TSN analyst Ray Ferraro had this to say immediately after the play:
“(Perry) sticks his left leg out,” Ferraro observed on the TSN telecast. “It’s a garbage play. You just can’t do that. Corey Perry would lose his mind if Patrik Laine did that to him. That’s just a dirty play. I don’t like it.”
Laine was hobbled, but he finished the game. Laine is widely considered one of the super trio of prospects in the upcoming draft, alongside fellow Finn Jesse Puljujarvi and American center Auston Matthews. He'll either go to the Winnipeg Jets or Columbus Blue Jackets at second or third overall, respectively.
