The first day and first round of the 2016 NHL Draft are upon us, and you can expect a busy night of intrigue and trades.
NHL Draft order 2016: Complete selection order for first round
The Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets will kick off the event with the first three picks of the first round. Auston Matthews is a lock to go to Toronto, but the order after that is murky. Whether Patrik Laine or Jesse Puljujarvi end up in Winnipeg or Columbus will be interesting to watch.
There could be a lot of movement after that. The Edmonton Oilers have picked in the top three so often that they could look to move down from their fourth overall pick. Might the Montreal Canadiens indulge them to select Quebec native Pierre-Luc Dubois? The allure of adding the likes of winger Matthew Tkachuk or defenseman Olli Juolevi could be enough to make teams jockey positions in the first round.
Not that the first round isn’t stocked with talent. Forwards like Logan Brown and Tyson Jost, or defensemen like Charlie McAvoy and Dante Fabbro will certainly make a team very happy later in the round.
The second round of the draft will kick off on Saturday morning and will run through to the end of the draft.
