There’s more than just a win streak riding on the Blue Jackets now. If Columbus wins their 17th straight game — to tie the 1992-13 Penguins for the NHL record — their potential history-making game will be flexed to NBCSN for Saturday evening.

In a press release made public on Thursday evening, NBCSN announced their plans should the Blue Jackets win their game against the Capitals tonight. Columbus plays the New York Rangers on Saturday in a game scheduled for 7 p.m. on local stations MSG2 and Fox Sports Ohio.

If the Blue Jackets best the Capitals and tie the NHL record, their game will be shifted from the local broadcast to NBCSN. More interestingly, NBCSN will be using their broadcasters for the event, as Chris Cuthbert and Brian Boucher would make the trip out to Columbus.

Of course, the Blue Jackets would have to win against their Metropolitan Division rival in Washington before any broadcasts get moved. Considering how Columbus has shocked the world so far on this win streak, they really have nothing to lose.

You can read the full press release from NBCSN below:

If the Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Washington Capitals tonight, NBCSN will televise Columbus’ attempt to set the NHL record for most consecutive wins this Saturday at 7 p.m. ET when they host the New York Rangers.

Columbus has won 16 straight games, and can tie the NHL record for consecutive wins (17) with a victory tonight in Washington. If the Blue Jackets then defeat the Rangers on Saturday night, they will set the NHL record with 18 consecutive wins. The Blue Jackets beat the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday to move within one win of the NHL record, set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1992-93 season.

Prior to tonight’s originally-scheduled Sabres-Blackhawks game on NBCSN, NHL Live will begin pre-game coverage at 7 p.m. ET – 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled – to provide expansive coverage of tonight’s Blue Jackets-Capitals game.

Chris Cuthbert (play-by-play) and Brian Boucher (‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst) will call Rangers-Blue Jackets from Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday night, if Columbus defeats Washington this evening.
