Dallas Stars memorialize former broadcaster Dave Strader who lost his battle with cancer

A moment of silence was given for the 62-year-old broadcaster who passed away earlier this week.

The Dallas Stars opened their 2017-18 season on an emotional note Friday night. Earlier this week, long-time hockey broadcaster and the voice of the Stars for the last two seasons Dave Strader passed away after a battle with cancer.

Strader, 62, had a long career in the broadcasting industry that stretched back to 1979. He called his first NHL game with the Detroit Red Wings in 1995.

Since, Strader had been a mainstay in the NHL broadcasting world. In 2016, he was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer found in the bile duct. Strader called a few Stars games last season, where the team saluted their play-by-play man at center ice.

Friday night, the Stars paid tribute to Strader’s broadcasting career with a moment of silence memorializing his legacy as one of the league’s best.

Earlier this week, the Stars posted a wonderful tribute video to Strader’s life and career.
