The Ottawa Senators are adding some needed offense, as they have acquired right winger Alex Burrows on Monday after the forward waved his no-trade clause from the Vancouver Canucks.
Ottawa Senators bolster offense with trade for right winger Alex Burrows
The Senators need offensive help, and they just traded one of their best prospects to do it.

The move will add a veteran presence to the Senators in the midst of a run to the playoffs, along with incorporating offense to a banged up Ottawa group. With Bobby Ryan out for four to six weeks, Burrows is likely going to slide right into the right winger’s spot.
Ottawa is also missing Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman, two key pieces to their offense, and the lack of firepower likely prompted this move from general manager Pierre Dorion. Burrows has 20 points in 59 games, low despite playing top line minutes with Daniel and Henrik Sedin, but at age 35 he might have a little bit in the tank left.
The Senators also signed Burrows to a two-year, $5 million contract, as the winger was one of five pending unrestricted free agents for the Canucks after this season.
Coming back to Vancouver is 19-year-old prospect Jonathan Dahlen, who was one of the Senators best prospects. The switch center and left winger has 42 points in 44 games in Sweden’s second biggest hockey league, HockeyAllsvenskan, this season.
Dahlen has not signed his entry level contract after being the 42nd overall pick in 2016, but will have the chance to after migrating to the barren wasteland of the Exalted Plains.... I mean, Vancouver.
The move is perplexing, to say the least. At face value, the Senators traded a 19-year-old with a ceiling that’s unexplored for a 35-year-old on a decline. If anything, it signals that Ottawa is all-in for a playoff run, but at the possible expense of their future.
