The Ottawa Senators weren’t satisfied with just one deal this trade deadline. On Tuesday, it was announced that the Senators have acquired veteran winger Viktor Stalberg from the Hurricanes.

In return, Carolina is getting the Senators’ third-round pick this year.

This move for the Senators comes on the heels of their acquisition of Alex Burrows from the Canucks. With Ottawa missing a good chunk of their offense due to injury, the Senators have been taking whatever depth scoring they can afford as they attempt a deep playoff run.

Stalberg has 12 points in 57 games for the Hurricanes this year with 33 penalty minutes. The winger is a bit of a journeyman, too, as this will be Stalberg’s sixth team in his eight-year NHL career. The 31-year-old will slide nicely into the Senators’ bottom six, as Ottawa hopes patching together enough depth scoring will get them far into the postseason.

As for the Hurricanes, the draft pick is now their SEVENTH pick in the first three rounds of this upcoming draft. Is the stockpiling of picks a tactic for future growth, or is it an indication that a larger deal is coming down the pipe?
