We’ve reached the age where hockey players being drafted today were born in the late 1990s. Yes, those future superstars your favorite teams just drafted are kids that were born in 1998 or 1999. Pretty scary stuff, even to a young 1990s kid like myself.
The Vegas Golden Knights tested their prospects’ knowledge of 90s songs
Looks like 90s kids don’t really remember the 90s.

Sadly, this means these teenagers do not remember the 90s at all, despite being one of the most incredible decades in history. The Vegas Golden Knights took advantage of that knowledge and have put their newly drafted prospects through quite the test: identify that 1990s song.
And the song selected? Hanson’s “MMMBop” from 1997.
God bless their hearts, but none of the Golden Knights prospects got it correct. A handful of Vegas’ prospects were born in the early or mid-1990s and even they were stumped, though there were a few close guesses.
Good news for us is that Vegas has more plans to put their prospects through the song ringer, so I have some suggestions as a Real Kid From The 90s:
- I feel like we have to give these kids a layup, so “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls is a classic.
- “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette because of that Canadian connection.
- “Jumpin’, Jumpin’“ by Destiny’s Child isn’t the most obvious song of theirs so it’s a solid pick that still could trip them up.
- Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” because it was everyone’s anthem at that time at one point or another.
- I know “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down may be cheating because it wasn’t released until 2000 but this is my list and I can do what I want thank you.
