Alex Ovechkin’s Russian Papa John’s commercial shows his tomato juggling needs work

Ovechkin does rock that Russian Papa John’s jersey though.

Alex Ovechkin may not be playing for Team Russia in the Olympics next year, but he’s still a clear fan favorite in his home country. On Thursday, video surfaced of Ovechkin starring in yet another commercial, this time for...Papa John’s?

Thanks to Russian Machine Never Breaks, there is ample video to be found of Ovechkin in a Russian Papa John’s jersey juggling tomatoes on his stick:

This video isn’t as out of left field as you think it is. Ovechkin signed an endorsement deal with Papa John’s in 2016, and he was featured in a commercial last December as a pizza delivery boy to raise money for Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.

This commercial, however, is Russian-only it seems. Thanks to Chris Wadsworth of The Burn, we know that this commercial will be used to get “business people interested in opening Papa John’s locations” in Russia. The commercial was filmed at the Ashburn Village Shopping Center in Virginia but will be used in Russia with the star power of Ovechkin behind it.

We do have a few questions, though:

  1. Where can we get a novelty version of that Russian Papa John’s jersey with the tropical green pants?
  2. Are those tomatoes real? Because if so, Ovechkin has great skill in keeping those things from breaking.

If the filming of this is any indication, the commercial itself is bound to be a treat.
