The Vancouver Canucks and Bo Horvat have agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract extension, the team announced on Friday. The new contract will have an average annual value of $5.5 million over the next six years.
Vancouver Canucks re-sign Bo Horvat to 6-year, $33 million deal
The 22-year-old was the Canucks’ best forward last season.

Horvat will now be under contract through the 2022-23 NHL season.
The 22-year-old forward was one of only a few bright spots for the Canucks in 2016-17. While Vancouver finished seventh in the Pacific Division with only 69 points, Horvat had career numbers across the board. Horvat lead the Canucks in goals (20) and points (52) while placing second overall on the team with 32 assists. He was also the Canucks’ lone representative at the 2017 NHL All-Star Game.
The Canucks drafted Horvat with the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NHL draft and has since built upon each of his previous seasons to become Vancouver’s top offensive prospect. In two of his three years at the NHL level, Horvat missed just one regular-season game. He also crested 40 points in his two most recent seasons, with last year coming during his time as the Canucks second-line center.
Horvat’s new deal is exactly the same as Jonathan Drouin’s contract with the Montreal Canadiens. Drouin is the bigger name of the two young players, no doubt, but Horvat’s career average 0.51 points per game is just behind Drouin’s 0.58.
The Canucks signed Horvat to his three-year entry level deal in 2013, which made him quite the RFA prize before Vancouver sealed this new contract. With the new deal in place, the Canucks now have just under $2 million left in cap room for the upcoming season.
