Breakaways are usually incredible opportunities to put a score in for your team. Odd man breaks like 2-on-1s or 3-on-1s are even more so, as more hands often make for more opportunities for a score.
Team USA turns rare 3-on-0 World Junior breakaway into a penalty
How did this go so wrong?

Team USA, in its semifinal game of the 2018 World Juniors, however, showcased exactly what not to do with an extremely rare 3-on-0 breakaway. And, to top it all off, they got a penalty for their troubles!
With the United States on a power play, Casey Mittelstadt opted to not pass on the rush down the ice, but instead took the puck to the net. The save by Sweden’s goaltender is top notch, but the trailer in Kieffer Bellows interfered with the netminder to erase the prime opportunity.
That may be an incredible missed opportunity should the United States lose this semifinal matchup against Sweden.
