Giants vs. Redskins 2013, Week 13: Betting odds, trends & pick

It’s practically a tossup in Sunday night’s NFC East matchup between the Giants and Redskins.

There is no clear favorite on Sunday night when the Washington Redskins host the New York Giants. Currently, Vegas has even odds on the game, although a couple books favor the Giants by 1 or 1.5 points.

The line opened up with the Redskins as 1.5-point favorites, but they’re now considered the underdogs in most books.

These two NFC East teams are heading in opposite directions. The Giants are the hotter team right now, going 4-2 against the spread in the past six games and winning four of their last five games. Their winning streak finally got snapped by the Dallas Cowboys last week, putting the Giants at 4-7 in the standings. They have not been an easy bet on the road, going just 2-7 against the spread in their last nine games.

The Redskins' season is all but over after a demoralizing loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Monday. They dropped to 3-8 in the standings and are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. Washington has lost three games in a row and its playoff hopes are hanging by a thread.

The over/under is set at 45.5 points. The score total has gone under in 12 of New York’s last 15 road games and under in five of its last six games when playing the Redskins. For Washington, the total has gone over in four of its last six games and under in four of its last six home games against the Giants. Given the unpredictable nature of this division rivalry, the over/under is a dicey bet this week.

Divisional matchups are always a risky gamble, but the Giants should have enough here to see off the Redskins and increase the heat on Mike Shanahan’s hot seat.
