San Antonio Spurs vs Houston Rockets betting odds, prediction, trends

The computer disagrees with the odds makers as San Antonio visits Houston in NBA betting action Tuesday.

USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs have the best record in the NBA away from home at 16-4 SU, going a respectable 12-8 ATS over that stretch.

The Spurs will put their road warrior spirit to the test Tuesday night visiting the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. Houston opened as a slight 1.5-point favorite at home, according to the NBA betting lines at Sports Interaction.

But the computer likes the Spurs in an upset.

Fueled by one of the best offenses in the NBA averaging 104.7 points per game and one of the best defenses in the league allowing just 96.9 points per game, the San Antonio Spurs continue to avoid decline with a 33-11 SU and 22-22 ATS record.

Sunday’s road loss to the Miami Heat broke up San Antonio’s six-game road winning streak. Since winning six straight games at the start of the month, the Spurs are 2-3 SU and ATS over their last five games.

The Houston Rockets started the season off on a 13-5 SU and 11-5-2 ATS run, living up to the preseason hype that was circling the team after acquiring Dwight Howard as a free agent. But over the last two months, the Rockets have been playing at a much more pedestrian level, going just 16-12 SU and 11-16-1 ATS over their last 28 games.

Houston has lost two straight and is 2-5 ATS over its last seven games, according to the Spurs-Rockets matchup report at NBA-Odds.com.

Three of the last five games and 10 of the last 17 games between these two teams has gone OVER the posted total. The Spurs have trended towards the OVER this season at 26-18 while the Rockets have trended slightly towards the UNDER at 20-24-2.

In two meetings so far this season, the Houston Rockets have had the San Antonio Spurs’ number. Houston has topped the Spurs twice in San Antonio this season, beating them 112-106 in November and 111-98 in December. Dating back to last year, the Rockets are 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in their last four games against San Antonio.

Home court shouldn’t be a big factor in this game with San Antonio’s strong road play; the question will be whether or not the Spurs can solve this team that has given them some trouble recently.

Computer Prediction from Odds Shark: 102-97 Spurs
