2014 World Series Betting, odds favor Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees

The Dodgers and Yankees are World Series favorites as spring training gets ready to start. Who has the best World Series 2014 odds?

Jeff Gross

Over the second half of the 2013 MLB season, no team was as dominant as the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Returning all of the key players from last year’s team and getting a healthy Matt Kemp back in the mix, Los Angeles is the clear betting favorite at the start of the season in odds to win the 2014 World Series at 13/2.

On paper, the Los Angeles Dodgers don’t appear to have any weaknesses. The middle of their lineup featuring Alex Gonzalez, Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez and Matt Kemp is as good as any in the game, and an elite starting rotation led by Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jun Ryu is also on par with MLB’s best.

Offseason signings of Dan Haren and Paul Maholm should help round out the bottom of the rotation and make the Dodgers a major contender.

After a few years of laying low, the New York Yankees got back to doing what they are best known for this offseason; spending money. While the Yankees lost Robinson Cano to the Seattle Mariners, they added three excellent bats in Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann, and Carlos Beltran.

They also got Japanese ace Masahiro Tanaka to help the starting rotation. New York is now going off at 10/1 in odds to win the 2014 World Series.

Three teams that didn’t need much tweaking this offseason to be contenders again this year are the Detroit Tigers (9/1), St. Louis Cardinals (11/1), and defending champion Boston Red Sox (12/1). St. Louis did add one solid bat in SS Jhonny Peralta.

Other teams expected to be in contention this season include Washington (12/1), Texas (14/1), San Francisco (16/1), and Tampa Bay (16/1).
