San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys betting odds, preview and Pick

San Francisco wins as road favorites and Dallas loses as home dogs. You figure it as Week 1 NFL odds kick off.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers are a 10-1 SU and 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games as road favorites, and they open the season as a 4.5-point road favorite on Sunday visiting the Dallas Cowboys.

While San Francisco is excellent in the role of road favorite, Dallas is terrible in the role of home underdog.

Dallas is just 1-7 SU in its last eight games as a home underdog, strengthening the case for San Francisco -4.5 as the pick in this one.

Odds Shark Computer Prediction: 29-23 San Francisco

Boasting one of the NFL’s best defenses and a strong physical running game, the San Francisco 49ers have been one of the league’s most consistently dominant teams in recent years.

San Francisco is 13-3 SU and 10-4-2 in its last 16 games overall and 8-2-1 ATS over its last 11 season openers.

Dallas had the worst defense in the NFL last season allowing a staggering 415.3 yards per game. To make matters worse for the Cowboys, they lost their most prolific defensive player this offseason when DeMarcus Ware departed to the Denver Broncos.

An 0-4 SU and ATS season didn’t help what were already low expectations heading into the 2014 season for the Dallas Cowboys, who are just 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games at home.

On many weeks, Dallas has a fighting chance thanks to a potent offense featuring plenty of weapons including quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant.

But when facing an elite defense like San Francisco’s the Cowboys’ offense is likely to be neutralized, leaving the team’s weak defense in bad shape.

San Francisco understands the importance of a hot start this season. After stumbling out of the gate with a 1-2 SU and ATS record, the 49ers were unable to catch Seattle in the NFC West and were forced to play their playoff games as a wild card team on the road instead of as a division winner at home.

Focused and with a chip on their shoulder, the 49ers should come into this game against Dallas with their best effort and cover as a 4.5-point road favorite.
