MLB Betting: Weekly odds roundup, World Series futures update

Do we have a Freeway World Series looming? Oddsmakers think so with the Los Angeles Angels and neighboring Dodgers sitting atop the World Series futures listings.

With a 5-1 record on the MLB moneyline over their last six games, the Kansas City Royals have a two-game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central.

The two teams meet for a critical three-game series in Detroit this week starting on Monday afternoon.

Justin Verlander takes the mound for the Tigers on Monday as a -135 favorite over Jeremy Guthrie and the Royals, who are going off at +115. The total has gone UNDER in seven of Verlander’s last nine starts and in seven of Kansas City’s last eight games overall.

Detroit is 10-4 SU in its last 14 games against Kansas City. The Royals are going off at 14/1 to win the World Series while the Tigers are slightly higher on the board at 9/1.

The latest World Series odds favor a Freeway Series between the Los Angeles Angels (currently the favorite to win the World Series at 5/1) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (11/2). The Angels completed a four-game road sweep over the Minnesota Twins this weekend and are 10-2 over their last 12 games.

The Dodgers also come out of the weekend fresh off a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks entering a three-game series Monday at home against the San Diego Padres.

Los Angeles is a huge -310 favorite over Odrisamer Despaigne and the Padres (+255) Monday night with Clayton Kershaw set to take the mound. The Dodgers are 16-1 in Kershaw’s last 17 starts.

On Friday, the Dodgers head to San Francisco for what could be an important three-game series. San Francisco enters this week’s action just three games behind Los Angeles in the NL West and four games up in the Wild Card standings. The Giants are a 16/1 longshot to win the World Series.

Rounding out the current contenders to win the World Series are the Washington Nationals (6/1), Baltimore Orioles (13/2), Oakland Athletics (17/2) and the St. Louis Cardinals (9/1), per Bovada.

Fueled by an 8-1 run over their last nine games all coming against divisional opponents, the Cardinals have opened up a 4.5-game lead over the rest of the NL Central.
