UFC 205 odds, McGregor vs. Alvarez: McGregor the betting favorite on stacked MMA card

Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez will be one of three title fights on this Saturday’s UFC 205 card at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Conor McGregor is 8-1 in his nine fights in the UFC since debuting with the company in 2013. Coming down in weight for a lightweight title shot, McGregor will take on Eddie Alvarez this Saturday in New York City at UFC 205.

McGregor is a -165 favorite to win the lightweight title at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Since winning the UFC Featherweight Championship in Dec. 2015, McGregor hasn’t defended the title, instead fighting Nate Diaz twice as a welterweight and now taking this fight against Alvarez as a lightweight.

If McGregor is successful on Saturday, he would become the first fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold two titles at once.

Alvarez had a long and successful career before debuting with the UFC at UFC 178, joining the company with a 25-3 career record under his belt. After losing his UFC debut to Donald Cerrone, Alvarez has won three straight fights, including a victory over Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title. Alvarez is going off at +135 to successfully defend his title.

The UFC Welterweight Championship will be on the line when Tyron Woodley (+165) defends his title against Stephen Thompson (-205). Woodley can hold his own as a striker, but against an opponent as dangerous as Thompson, he will likely look to take this bout to the mat.

Thompson has won seven straight fights, including impressive wins over Robert Whittaker, Johny Hendricks, and Rory MacDonald. Four of Thompson’s last six fights have been won by knockout.

In the third title fight on the card, Joanna Jedrzejczyk (-400) will defend her strawweight title against Karolina Kowalkiewicz (+300). Both of these fighters are currently undefeated, as Jedrzejczyk is 12-0 with a 6-0 record in the UFC and Kowalkiewicz is 10-0 with a 3-0 record in the UFC. Jedrzejczyk’s length and experience should give her the edge, but this should be a competitive fight.

Other fights on the card include Chris Weidman (-175) vs. Yoel Romero (+145), Donald Cerrone (-160) vs. Kelvin Gastelum (+130) and Miesha Tate (-175) vs. Raquel Pennington (+145). Weidman was 13-0 before losing the UFC Middleweight Championship to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194.
