Stephen Thompson has won each of his last six fights since picking up his first loss as a professional back in 2012. Thompson will square off against Rory MacDonald in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa.
UFC Fight Night, MacDonald vs. Thompson odds: Wonderboy slight favorite on MMA card
Stephen Thompson and Rory MacDonald collide in the main event of UFC Fight Night 89 this Saturday in a tight matchup on the betting lines.

The welterweight Thompson is currently going off as a slight favorite at -125 to win this bout at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. With his first round knockout of former champion Johny Hendricks in his last fight, Thompson made a strong statement on how far he’s come in the welterweight division. The karate expert has won four of his last five fights by knockout.
MacDonald fell to 18-3 in his MMA career in a sensational fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 that wasn’t decided until the fifth round. Even in a losing effort, MacDonald fought admirably and put his skillset on display as one of the most well-rounded fighters in the division.
The winner of this main event could put himself in line for a title shot in the near future. MacDonald is going off at -105 to win this fight at the sportsbooks.
In addition, Donald Cerrone (-175) comes up a weight class for his welterweight fight against Patrick Cote (+145). Cerrone has an exciting high-energy style that has given plenty of opponents fits in recent years with nine wins over his last 10 fights.
For Cote, this could serve as a statement fight; after winning each of his last three fights, an upset win over Cerrone could put the welterweight in line for bigger ticket fights in his division. This should be an interesting fight pitting Cerrone’s speed advantage against Cote’s size advantage.
A light heavyweight bout between Steve Bosse (-155) and Sean O’Connell (+125) pits two brawlers against one another. Bosse is 11-2 as a professional and 1-1 in the UFC, and nine of his 11 wins have come by knockout.
While he may be the harder hitter in this fight, O’Connell also has nine knockouts over his 17-7 career and is a slightly more polished fighter. This slugfest should end in a knockout one way or another as both will come out swinging from the start.
Other fights on the UFC Fight Night 89 card include Olivier Aubin-Mercier (-375) vs Thibault Gouti (+285), Valerie Letourneau (-180) vs. Joanne Calderwood (+155), Jason Saggo (-200) vs Leandro Silva (+160), and Misha Cirkunov (-210) vs. Ion Cutelaba (+170).
