Lakers vs. Jazz odds 2017: Utah listed as a double-digit betting favorite against Los Angeles

The Utah Jazz will try to break a two-game losing streak on Thursday at home when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers as large chalk on the NBA odds at the sportsbooks.

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz are 14-5 straight up and 11-7-1 against the spread in their last 19 games at home. The Jazz are likely to pick up another home win this Thursday night against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Utah is a 13.5-point home favorite in Salt Lake City at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last 12 games overall, the Jazz are just 3-9 ATS.

After stringing together a six-game winning streak that included a 100-92 home upset over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah has lost each of its last two games. The Jazz rank No. 28 in the NBA in scoring with 99.4 points per game, but have still compiled a respectable 29-18 SU record thanks to the league’s best scoring defense, allowing only 95.5 points per game.

The offense could have a chance to break through this Thursday facing a Lakers defense that ranks No. 26 in the NBA, allowing 110.5 points per game.

The Jazz have been far from a sure thing as a big favorite in recent seasons. Utah is 12-7 SU and 6-12-1 ATS in its last 19 games as a double-digit favorite per the OddsShark NBA Database.

Betting Line / Total: Utah -13.5 / 203.5 Points

Trend: The Jazz are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games.

Trend: The Jazz are 5-3 ATS in their last eight games against the Lakers.

Through the first 20 games of the season, the Lakers looked like they might have a shot at competing for a playoff spot with a 10-10 SU and 11-8-1 ATS record. But injury issues and growing pains eventually overwhelmed the young Lakers after their solid start, sending them into a 6-22 SU and 9-19 ATS tailspin over their next 28 games.

Los Angeles entered Wednesday night’s game against Portland with an 0-6 SU and ATS record in its previous six road games.

Thursday night’s total is set at 203.5 points. The UNDER is 17-7 in Utah’s last 24 games.

Los Angeles is at its best when it is able to push the tempo on offense, while Utah prefers a slow and steady pace with an emphasis on its strong defense. The Jazz are 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS in their last eight games against the Lakers, but each of the previous three meetings between these two teams this season have been decided by seven points or less.
