Diaz vs. McGregor III odds: Betting lines for potential bout favoring McGregor at sportsbooks

After losing to Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring, Conor McGregor has been set as a betting favorite in a potential return to the UFC against Nate Diaz.

Conor McGregor has a record of 9-1 since joining the UFC in 2013. His only loss in the company came against Nate Diaz at UFC 196. He got revenge against Diaz at UFC 202, and now fans and bettors are clamoring for a rubber match between these two fighters.

The currently hypothetical third fight in this series has McGregor going off as a -250 favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Diaz sits at +190 as the betting underdog.

McGregor was on top of the MMA world when he entered his first fight with Diaz, riding a 15-fight winning streak and coming off a 13-second knockout win over Jose Aldo. A scheduled matchup against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 was canceled when dos Anjos had to withdraw with a broken foot, leaving McGregor without an opponent for the pay-per-view. Diaz accepted the fight on short notice, and McGregor agreed to come up to his weight class to fight him.

This wound up being a miscalculation on McGregor’s part. With the clear weight and strength advantage in the fight, Diaz was able to weather an early storm from the lightweight and eventually earn a submission win in the second round.

Bettors also miscalculated this bout as McGregor was a favorite in the -400 to -450 range when the fight took place.

Given five months to prepare for his rematch against Diaz, McGregor was much better prepared when the two fighters met again at UFC 202. The result was an outstanding bout with McGregor owning the early rounds, Diaz coming on strong in the third and fourth, and McGregor edging his way to a decision victory with a second wind in the fifth round. McGregor was a favorite of around -130 to -150 in the rematch.

Nate Diaz is an unlikely foil to McGregor with a career record of 19-11 and a mark of 3-4 since 2012, but no one can deny that the last fight between these two was an instant classic. McGregor has other options for his next fight, but this is the one that the fans want to see.
