The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide are 17-0 straight up in their last 17 games at home and 5-1 against the spread in their last six games as a favorite of 30 points or less. The Crimson Tide face one of their most intense rivals at home Saturday night when the No. 19 LSU Tigers roll into town.

Alabama is a 21-point home favorite in Tuscaloosa at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com (the same margin as Bama’s 2011 national title win over LSU and Bama’s 38-17 win in 2013). In their last 12 games against SEC opponents, the Crimson Tide are 12-0 SU and 9-3 ATS.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide picked up a win and cover as 37-point favorites in their last game against the Tennessee Volunteers, dominating the game from start to finish in a 45-7 victory.

Alabama has separated itself from the rest of the nation on defense, owning both the best total defense in the nation allowing only 236 yards per game and the best scoring defense in the nation allowing 9.8 points per game. On offense, the Crimson Tide rank 12th in yards per game with 500 and fifth in scoring with 43 points per game.

This rivalry has been lopsided in Alabama’s favor in recent years. The Crimson Tide are 6-0 SU and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games against LSU per the OddsShark College Football Database.

LSU Tigers

LSU unceremoniously fell out of the top 25 after starting the season off 3-2 SU and 1-4 ATS with ugly losses at Mississippi State and at home against Troy. Since then, the Tigers are 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS with road wins over Florida and Ole Miss and an upset at home over Auburn. Quarterback Danny Etling has thrown only one interception this season, and another mistake-free day will be the key to having a shot at upsetting Alabama.

Saturday’s total is set at 48.5 points. The UNDER is 5-2 in the last seven games between these two teams.

Alabama hasn’t beaten LSU by more than three touchdowns since 2002. These rivalry games have historically tended to be close, but with the level the Crimson Tide are playing at on both sides of the ball this season, no spread seems to be too big to cover.
