Scott Dixon has finished in the top five in all five of the 2017 IndyCar Series races so far this season. Dixon will try to pick up his first win of the year with a victory in the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday.
2017 Indy 500 odds: Scott Dixon the betting favorite to win the Indianapolis 500
Scott Dixon, Will Power, and Formula One veteran Fernando Alonso top the Indianapolis 500 betting lines at the sportsbooks with the race set for Sunday.

The 2008 Indy 500 winner is a +600 favorite to win the race this year at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Dixon finished the 2016 season in a disappointing sixth place in the IndyCar Series standings after winning his fourth championship back in 2015. He has bounced back to sit atop the leaderboard early in 2017, and his performance in qualifying earned him the pole position in this race. Scott Dixon has two runner-up finishes this year.
Will Power (+800) started off this season with three straight finishes outside of the Top 10, but he has turned things around of late with a runner-up finish in the Phoenix Grand Prix and a win in the IndyCar Grand Prix this month. Power has never won the Indy 500 and will look to become the fourth winner of this race in the last five seasons to be a first-time winner in this event.
One of the most intriguing names on the betting board this Sunday is Fernando Alonso. A Formula One racer who is considered to be one of the best drivers in the world, Alonso will make his IndyCar debut as a 35-year-old this weekend. Alonso’s odds to win the race are probably a bit inflated at +800 due to his loyal following in Formula One, but his talent as a driver does make him a legitimate threat.
Past Indianapolis 500 winners looking to find the winner’s circle again include last year’s winner Alexander Rossi (+1500), 2015’s Juan Pablo Montoya (+1200), 2014’s Ryan Hunter-Reay (+1200), 2013’s Tony Kanaan (+1200) and 2009’s Helio Castroneves (+1000). Rossi won this event as a rookie last season.
Other contenders include Marco Andretti (+1200), Josef Newgarden (+1500), Simon Pagenaud (+1500), Takuma Sato (+1500), and Ed Carpenter (+1500). Like Scott Dixon, Pagenaud has finished in the top five of all five races this season and is coming off a championship year in 2016.
