Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks odds 2017: Los Angeles a road betting favorite for series opener

The Dodgers face the Diamondbacks this week in a potential playoff preview, with the sportsbooks pegging them as chalk.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a three-game series to the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend, ending their streak of 22 straight series without losing one. The Dodgers will try to start a new streak in a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks starting this Tuesday.

Los Angeles is a -120 road favorite in Phoenix at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Rich Hill will get the start for the Dodgers against Zack Godley and the Diamondbacks, who are +110 home underdogs.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are just 4-4 over their last eight games, bringing to an end a dominant stretch in which the team went 52-9. Perhaps it is no coincidence that Los Angeles has been without rookie sensation Cody Bellinger over those eight games. The team is 13-14 in the 27 games that he hasn’t appeared in this season and 78-24 in the 102 games that he has played.

Bellinger is expected to return from the disabled list on his first day eligible to do so this Wednesday.

Hill took a hard-luck loss in his last outing, losing a no-hit bid in the 10th inning of a 1-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Dodgers are 7-2 in Hill’s last nine trips to the mound, per the OddsShark MLB Database.

Betting Line / Total: Los Angeles -120 / 8.5 Runs

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks slumped through the middle of August with a 5-11 record over a 16-game stretch before snapping into form last week with a 6-1 record in seven games. Arizona’s pitching staff, which had given up 7.5 runs per game over a 1-5 run right before this one, allowed just 2.29 runs per game last week.

This team has been a streaky one all season, but it could be an interesting playoff dark horse if it is streaking in the right direction when the playoffs roll around.

Tuesday’s total is set at nine runs. The UNDER is 5-2 in the last seven games between these two division rivals.

Los Angeles and Arizona will meet again next week in Los Angeles. This week, their series will wrap up with pitching matchups of Robbie Ray vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu on Wednesday and Zack Greinke vs. Kenta Maeda on Thursday.
