Crimson Tide vs. Commodores OddsShark Matchup Report

Alabama Crimson Tide

After an impressive 24-7 win in their season opener against Florida State, the Crimson Tide have gone through the motions in each of their last two games at home as huge favorites. Alabama defeated Fresno State 41-10 and Colorado State 41-23, failing to cover the spread in both games.

While it isn’t wise to put much stock in a tune-up game, it was still surprising to see Alabama’s usually elite defense allow 23 points at home; the Crimson Tide hadn’t allowed more than 16 points in any of their previous 13 home games.

The Crimson Tide will likely ramp up their intensity now that conference play has begun. Alabama is 17-0 SU and 11-6 ATS in its last 17 games against SEC opponents, per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt has looked extremely sharp in its 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS start. The Commodores have scored 84 points while allowing only 13, holding Kansas State to just seven points in last Saturday’s 14-7 home upset over the Wildcats.

After throwing only nine touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in his first year as a starter last year, Kyle Shurmur is off to a blazing hot start with eight touchdowns and zero interceptions in 2017. The Commodores are 3-0 SU and ATS in their last three games as home underdogs.

Saturday’s total is set at 43 points. The UNDER is 5-0 in the last five games between these two teams.

The talent edge that Alabama has on both sides of the ball in this game should carry the Crimson Tide to a win, but don’t sleep on this year’s Vanderbilt team. This group has a strong defense, and if Shurmur can continue to avoid making mistakes and turnovers this season, the Commodores could prove to be a tough out.
