Auburn Tigers
The 14-6 road loss to Clemson in Week 2 was disappointing at the time, but that loss has gotten better with age as Clemson has looked fantastic through its other three games.
Auburn’s defense has emerged as one of the nation’s elite units in the early stages of the season, allowing only 11.3 points and 236 yards per game. If last week’s 51-point performance against Missouri was a sign of things to come on offense, this could be a big year for the Tigers.
With last week’s 51-14 road win, Auburn improved to 6-2 SU and ATS in its last eight games against SEC opponents, per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State turned some heads and catapulted into the Top 25 with its impressive 37-7 win at home over LSU in Week 3. Given a chance to build on that momentum last week on the road against Georgia, the Bulldogs fell flat with a 31-3 road loss.
This week’s game against Auburn will help identify which of those games was a better representation of this group. Mississippi State is just 1-12 SU in its last 13 games played in Week 5.
Saturday’s total is set at 51.5 points. The UNDER is 5-0 in the last five games between Auburn and Mississippi State.
Alabama is clearly the best team in the SEC, but the picture gets pretty hazy after that. Georgia currently has a strong case as the best of the rest, but the winner of this game will deserve some strong consideration too. Auburn gets Alabama at home this season in the Iron Bowl at the end of November.
