Clemson Tigers
The Tigers have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball to replace, but the depth of this program was on display in last week’s 56-3 win at home over Kent State. Of course, Kent State was just a tune-up game; the real challenge on Clemson’s schedule begins now.
Three of the Tigers’ next four opponents are currently ranked in the Top 20 with Auburn in town this week, Louisville on the road next week, and then Virginia Tech on the road at the end of September.
This September looks tough, but the month hasn’t bothered Clemson in recent seasons. The Tigers are 21-2 SU and 15-8 ATS in their last 23 September games, including a 15-0 SU and 10-5 ATS record at home per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Auburn Tigers
Auburn had seemingly introduced itself as a national power after a 12-2 SU and ATS campaign back in 2013, but the program failed to carry the momentum of that dream season into sustained success.
Playing in the unforgiving SEC West has obviously played a huge role in that, but the Tigers aren’t trying to make excuses and are trying to play their way back into the SEC championship picture. An upset win over Clemson would be a helpful early statement; the Tigers are just 2-10 SU and 4-7-1 ATS in their last 12 games as an underdog.
Saturday’s total is set at 53.5 points. The UNDER is 8-0 in Auburn’s last eight games as an underdog.
Both of these teams sit in a pack right below the major contenders on the odds to win the national championship this season with Auburn going off at +1800 and Clemson going off at +2000. The winner of this game will take a big step forward in making its dark horse playoff chances more of a potential reality.
