Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles emerged as clear Super Bowl contenders with Carson Wentz under center going 11-2 SU and 10-3 ATS through their first 13 games. But when Wentz tore his ACL against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14, the air of invincibility around this team quickly diminished.
Nick Foles is a serviceable backup but isn’t viewed as the type of player who can win quarterback duels and carry a team deep into the postseason. Philadelphia is 0-3 ATS over its last three games since Foles took over as starter.
In six games played in the Divisional Round since the start of the 2001 season, the Eagles are 5-1 SU and ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta looked the part of a road warrior in last Saturday’s 26-13 upset win over the Los Angeles Rams, improving to 13-5 SU and 11-7 ATS over its last 18 road games.
The Falcons have looked extremely sharp on defense over the last two weeks in holding one of the league’s top offenses to just 13 points last week and Carolina to only 10 points to clinch a playoff spot in Week 17.
With all of the weapons that this Falcons team has on offense, a defense that is also playing well could spell trouble for the rest of the NFC.
Saturday night’s total is set at 41 points. The UNDER is 9-3 in the last 12 games between Atlanta and Philadelphia.
The Falcons are 4-0 SU and ATS over their last four games played on a Saturday. A healthy Wentz would change the complexion of this game completely, but with Foles starting against this red-hot Falcons defense, there is some justification in Atlanta being a historic road favorite this weekend.
