MLS odds 2018: New York City FC, New York Red Bulls both weekend betting favorites

Two of the top teams in the MLS meet when the New York City FC host the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday as betting favorites at the sportsbooks.

New York City FC shot up to the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 2-0 road win over Sporting KC last weekend. This week the club will try to pick up a win at home on Sunday when it hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy.

New York City FC is a -160 home favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. After finishing last season with the second best record in the MLS, New York is currently going off second on the odds to win the 2018 MLS Cup at +800. The Galaxy (+425 to win, +290 to draw) also picked up a win in their first game of the season in a 2-1 home win over the Portland Timbers.

Portland (+225 to win, +245 to draw) continues its five-game road trip with a match against the New York Red Bulls (+115) on Saturday. New York was off last week and will be playing its first game of the season this weekend.

Last season, Portland finished the regular season tied for the Western Conference lead in points with 15 wins and eight draws in a 15-11-8 campaign. The Timbers would love to avoid falling into a big hole in the standings off of this long road stint out of the gate.

The Houston Dynamo had the most impressive performance of opening week scoring a 4-0 home victory over Atlanta United. Houston will try to build on that performance as a -135 home favorite this Saturday hosting the Vancouver Whitecaps (+340 to win, +280 to draw).

Vancouver wasn’t quite as flashy in victory but did earn three points last week with its 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact.

Atlanta will have the chance to shake off that ugly loss when it returns home as a -180 favorite to host DC United (+475 to win, +310 to draw) on Sunday. DC United finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-20-5, but shockingly enough went a perfect 3-0-0 in three matches against Atlanta United.

Atlanta may be the better team on paper, but this won’t feel like a gimme coming off of an awful loss and a lack of success against this club in 2017.
