The fastest miler in history is once again from Great Britain.

Scotland's Josh Kerr sought to break the world record in the mile for several months, and he did the damn thing at the London Diamond League. The old record was set by the iconic Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco back in 1999. El Guerrouj ran the mile (1609 meters for the metricheads) in 3:43.13. Kerr breached new ground by running 3:42.66, three seconds clear of USA's Yared Nuguse.

Kerr won the world title in the 1500m in 2023 and silver in the Olympics in 2024, among other indoor and outdoor achievements. This has been one of the most iconic and difficult world records to break in all of track and field, and Kerr pulled it off in front of a raucous home crowd.

Sir Roger Bannister was famous for being the first to go sub-4 in the mile back in the 1950s, and now Kerr has just become the first to go sub-3:43.
