Roma lose Erik Lamela to an ankle injury

The in-form attacking player will miss three weeks after injuring his ankle in Roma’s 2-0 win on Monday over Torino.

Roma will be without in-form attacking midfielder/forward Erik Lamela for the next three weeks after the 20-year-old injured his ankle in the team's win over Torino on Monday.

The Argentine underwent a series of tests today which confirmed damage to a ligament in his right ankle. It's not serious enough to require surgery, but it will keep Lamela out of Roma's next three matches against Pescara, Siena and Fiorentina.

Lamela has scored eight goals in 12 Serie A matches this season, helping to lead i Giallorossi to their current sixth place position in the table, within striking distance of a European spot. He’s currently the team’s leading scorer as well, one ahead of Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, who has seven goals.

Reports have linked Lamela with a possible move to Manchester United in January. There were rumors over the summer that United had a bid for him rejected by Roma back in during the last transfer window.
