The first Derby della Madonnina of the season could give everyone a better idea of whether or not Inter Milan and AC Milan have the chops to run with Juventus at the top of the Serie A table.

Milan and Inter don’t look like the powers of old, but both have a chance to send a message that they’re in the Scudetto race with a victory on Sunday.

Inter Milan look like a better version of the Nerazzurri than the team that played last season, but they’ve yet to face any of Italy’s top sides. That’s assuming that Roma isn’t considered a top side anymore, and even if they are, they defeated Inter at the San Siro. To date, their best result is a win away to Chievo. Inter’s quality or lack thereof is still a bit of a mystery.
Meanwhile, it's no mystery at all that Milan are a team in transition. They might have picked up a bit of a morale boost from their mid-week win in Russia over Zenit St. Petersburg, but two of their goals were extremely lucky, and they were outplayed for the majority of the match. They also didn't look great last week in a 1-1 draw with Parma, and their three losses on the season have been well deserved.

AC Milan injuries and suspensions
Out: Alexandre Pato, Sulley Muntari, Rodney Strasser, Didac Vila.
Milan's injuries are nothing new, and it's likely that none of the players they're missing would have been selected in their starting XI. Inter's injuries are much more concerning, though the offseason acquisition of Walter Gargano softens the blow of their central midfield injuries. Andrea Stramaccioni might have to get creative with how he sets up his attack if Sneijder does not pass a late fitness test.
