Aston Villa have done their best this season to drive their supporters insane, and today's Carling Cup match was no exception. Kirsten Schlewitz of 7500 to Holte describes the emotional turmoil Villa fans experienced today:
Carling Cup Fourth Round: Aston Villa Need Extra Time To See Off Championship Side Burnley 2-1
Aston Villa decided to put every one of its supporters on a roller coaster ride of doom today, needing 120 minutes at Villa Park to see off Championship side Burnley, 2-1. The Villa faithful went from quietly confident to fretfully nervous to gleefully ecstatic to exceedingly frustrated back to gleefully ecstatic to pure anger. In the end, the team and the fans were happy, but at the expense of the health of many.
Emile Heskey's goal in the 85th minute was canceled out by Clarke Carlisle's 89th minute header. Fortunately for Villa fans (and the team), Stewart Downing drove in a beauty in added extra time, and last year's runner up made it through to the quarter-finals of the cup.
