The Crew should be overjoyed to go into the half within a goal. The Rapids absolutely dominated the final 35 minutes of the half, barely allowing the Crew to put together any kind of sustained attack.
Major League Soccer Playoffs, Rapids vs. Crew, Leg 1: Colorado Leads 1-0 At Halftime
The Rapids midfield has had its way and Omar Cummings and Conor Casey have run rampant on the Crew backline.
The normally reliable Chad Marshall and Andy Iro have looked harried, giving away several unforced turnovers and Frankie Hejduk has continued to show his age.
The Crew came out with a more aggressive look, starting Emmanuel Ekpo instead of Eddie Gaven and actually dictated the pace for the first 10 minutes. At that point, though, it was all Rapids. Cummings nearly broke free a couple times, barely missed a goal around the 20th minute.
The Rapids finally broke the scoreless deadlock with a Pablo Mastroeni goal off a Cummings assist in the 25th minute.
Despite dominating the final 20 minutes of the half, though, the Rapids weren’t able to build on their lead.
