Goals by Carlos Tévez and Jonas Gutierrez have given today’s match at Eastlands a decidedly Argentine flavor. They’ve also sent the match into intermission tied 1-1.
Manchester City-Newcastle: Half Time At Eastlands Sees Citizens, Magpies Drawn 1-1
The first 45 minutes played-out in typical Manchester City fashion, with Newcastle being allowed much of the possession and ambition. City’s counterattack has looked very dangerous, with Tévez threatening a Newcastle line that’s played surprisingly high.
However, with Fabricio Coloccini now out of the game, having suffered an apparent groin injury, it remains to be seen whether Chris Hughton will persist with trying to constrict the pitch. Neither Mike Williamson nor Sol Campbell are renown for their recovery speed.
Whereas City has done most of their threatening on the counter attack, Newcastle’s best play has come down their left flank thanks to a strong half from Gutierrez. His activity has forced Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini to move James Milner, who started at left wing, to the right, playing deep but in front of right back Jerome Boateng.
Boateng is making his first Premier League start, having come on as a substitute last week against Chelsea.
Both teams are playing five midfielders, with Manchester City’s two defensive midfielder set-up matched against Newcastle’s one holder formation.
