Chelsea-Arsenal: Didier Drogba Finishes Ramires, Ashley Cole Work, Gives Blues 1-0, 39th Minute Lead

Didier Drogba’s left-footed finish from inside the six beat Lukas Fabianski near the `keeper’s right post, giving Chelsea a 39th minute, 1-0 lead over Arsenal.

The movement started with Ramires winning a ball in the middle of the pitch. The ball played back to him, the Brazilian found Ashley Cole running behind the right side of Arsenal’s defense. At the line, Cole played to Drogba at the near post who, with Sebastien Squillaci on his back, swiped a left-footed shot just inside the post, giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead.

To that point, the match had been fairly even with the exception of two early chances for Arsenal. Marouance Chamakh’s early, diving header went just wide of the far post from near the spot, while Laurent Koscielny missed an easy chance off a corner kick moments later.

For Drogba, it was his sixth league goal of the season.
