Palermo substituted on Fabrizio Miccoli for Javier Pastore in the 51st minute, and it has made a world of difference. Delio Rossi wanted to give the young Argentinian a chance to run off his knock, but it was obvious after a couple of minutes that he was not at his best. Miccoli came on, and Palermo started to look better.
A.C. Milan 1-1 Palermo: Bacinovic Equalizes
The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute thanks to a low long range shot by Armin Bacinovic. Palermo put together a good attack, keeping the ball for an extended period of time, culminating with a dangerous cross into the box. Milan’s defense cleared, but the ball fell to an unmarked Bacinovic who took a low shot towards the near post. Abbiati appeared to be screened by Thiago Silva and stood absolutely still as the ball rolled into the back of the net.
Literally seconds off the ensuing kickoff, Pato made a brilliant run into the box, ending in a violent collision. Somehow, despite the fact that Pato was obviously hammered in the box, the referee did not grant a penalty kick to Milan. This came not too long after a Miccoli free kick was blocked in the box by the hand of Kevin Prince-Boateng, an incident missed by the referee. The officials have now missed three clear cut penalties. Pato was injured on the play and has been substituted off for Filippo Inzaghi.
Milan have been threatening constantly since the Palermo goal, with Clarence Seedorf hitting the crossbar once. Palermo has substituted the relatively ineffective Pinilla off for Maccarone in an attempt to change the game.
