Four minutes after Aston Villa took the lead on Manchester United, Villa's added a second, with Stewart Downing and Marc Albrighton finally connecting, giving the Lions a much deserved 2-0 lead.
Aston Villa Vs. Manchester United: Marc Albrighton Sinks United, Puts Villa Up 2-0
Downing, giving another solid performance, had previously set-up his young teammate for a would-be goal, though Albrighton put a header wide of a practically open net. At the time, the miss loomed large, with Villa having yet to break through.
In the 76th minute, Albrighton redeemed himself. Whereas the miss would have otherwise clouded a strong performance from the Villa prospect, his right footed finish of another Downing ball paints a more accurate picture of this contributions.
The play started with Ashley Young advancing up the pitch, roughly 35 yards out. As he entered the final third he drifted toward the left flank, allowing Stewart Downing to run underneath him. Young rolled a ball into the left of Villa's penalty area, allowed Downing to run-onto a left-footed cross. The perfectly placed ball gave Edwin van der Sar little chance.
With 14 minutes left, Villa appears to have put the match away.
