Let’s be real, after Manchester City drew 0-0 at home in Wednesday’s Manchester derby, one wouldn’t have been out of line in assuming the Citizens would approach Saturday’s home encounter with Brum rife with an attacking prowess matched only by the league’s best.

City did the job they set out to do on Wednesday, which was to not lose. Saturday approached with hope that City would utilize the gajillion pounds they spent this summer on new blood (to conquer the world) to have a real ‘go’ at scoring a few early goals, yet as Eastlands remains ominously quiet, so too does City’s stuttering attack.
City have stuck with the same 4-3-3 they’ve implemented all year, a 4-3-3 now with strangely similar results to those of your favorite cup of Celestial Seasoning’s Sleepytime Tea. While City fans remain disgruntled, Brum’s attempt at anything other than sitting back to defend can only be matched by watching the water in that same pot of tea come to a boil.
Even with Adam Johnson getting the start on the wing for City, the Champions League hopefuls remain far from a decent looking side at home. For now at least, City versus City remains quite dour and dull.
