Since Roque Santa Cruz left Ewood Park two years ago, Blackburn has been looking for somebody to pick up the goal scoring slack. Now with four goals in as many matches, Morten Gamst Pedersen might be that man.
Blackburn Vs. Aston Villa: Morten Gamst Pederson’s Second Goal Has Blackburn In Control
OK, he’s not. We can all see this is just a “rich run of form.” Nonetheless, Pedersen has been the catalyst for Blackburn today, with his 65th minute redirection of a Ryan Nelson shot finding it’s way through a sea of bodies and into the left side of Brad Freidel’s net. The midfielder’s second goal of the match has given Blackburn a 2-0 lead and, if this result holds, has 16th place Blackburn ready to jump five spots in the table.
For Aston Villa, it's been a disappointing performance. They've been unable to craft meaningful chances, and amongst the individual performances, only Stewart Downing's stood out. Where Blackburn's personnel and predictable style of play serves as a litmus test for aspiring Premier League sides, Aston Villa has failed to meet the challenge.
Of not for Villa supporters, Robert Pires has made his debut. The former Arsenal and Villareal man has replaced Stephen Ireland, who was mostly anonymous today.
