A 2-0 halftime lead for Real Madrid over Ajax and it's completely deserved, not just for the dominance the Spaniards have had over their opponents from Amsterdam, but for the beautiful display they have put on in scoring their goals. A sublime first touch back heel by Mesut Ozil set up Karim Benzema's perfect finish got Madrid on the scoreboard and Alvaro Arbeloa doubled that lead just before half with a stunning strike.
Ajax Vs. Real Madrid: More Madrid Brilliance Puts Them Ahead Two At Half
Cristiano Ronaldo's 44th minute free kick was blocked and came to Arbeloa who unleashed a ferocious 30 yard strike that swerved so much that Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was rooted to the spot as the ball hit the net. It was Madrid's second brilliant goal of the half and there looks to be no way back for Ajax as they continue to chase the tails of Madrid to no avail.
Elsewhere in Group G, Milan remains even with Auxerre. If Ajax cannot manage a remarkable comeback and Milan pushes ahead of Auxerre to win, Ajax will be eliminated from the tournament. If Milan cannot get all three points, Ajax will remain alive with a final group match set at Milan’s San Siro, one that Ajax will have to win to progress to the knockout stage.
