It was a near carbon copy of their first goal, a header from near-to-far post by Ian Evatt that tested Lee Chung-Yung at the Trotter post. Early in the second half, it was Luke Varney who headed-on the corner kick. Again, Lee could react fast enough.
Bolton Wanderers Vs. Blackpool: More Corner Kick Magic Gives Tangerines 2-0 Lead
This time it wasn’t a deflect ball that gave Lee trouble. Varney had headed the corner kick down into the six yard box, the bounce barely eluding Jussi Jaaskelainen’s outstretched left arm. That left Lee to try and save Blackpool’s second goal, which he initially seemed to do. His right footed kick sent the ball away from goal.
Mike Dean, the match’s referee, ruled immediately, though. He immediately affirmed that the ball had crossed the line, something that replays seems to verify. With a whistle and a point, Bolton was down two goals after 56 minutes.
Since the Varney goal, Blackpool has dominated play. Whereas the Tangerines were on the back foot for most of the match, now they are taking advantage of a Trotter team that’s had to start chasing the match. The immediate result say the Seasiders exploiting the new spaces opened up for them. Now, Bolton seems confused as to whether they can chase the match without giving up a third.
Now in the 66th minute, Blackpool still leads by two.
