Chelsea have entered the half all square against Newcastle thanks to some crisp passing and a fine bit of Salomon Kalou individual skill. While Chelsea have continued to press and look for an equalizer, the first half saw little quality and even fewer chances until the game's 45th minute.
Newcastle Vs. Chelsea, Halftime: Salomon Kalou Individual Brilliance Brings Chelsea Level 1-1
The equalizer was set up by a Florent Malouda back heel which found Kalou just outside of the Newcastle penalty area. Kalou's first touch enabled him to shift the ball onto his more powerful right foot and cut in towards the right to strike past Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal via a slight deflection from Danny Simpson.
1-1 at the half seems to be a fair enough scoreline in a game that has played out more conservative than open and free flowing. Andy Carroll continues to be brilliant for Newcastle. His ability to win headers high up the pitch and flick the ball on towards Shola Ameobi remains Newcastle’s most potent option in attack. For now at least, Chelsea have little answer for the England striker.
